Young Learners at Compass

In 2026-2027, we are offering something NEW for our youngest students! 4- and 5-year olds are invited to join our Montessori Class, where they will stay with one teacher for the full morning. This provides them with structure and comfort as they learn and grow with their friends.

Following an optional lunch time, K4 and K5 students have the choice of three awesome elective classes to explore their interests before they go home after a fun-filled day at co-op!

Montessori Class

Our K4/K5 Young Learners' Half Day program is designed to gently guide young learners in grades K4 and K5 during these important early years. In a nurturing Montessori environment, children learn together in one consistent classroom with a dedicated teacher who truly knows and understands them. This sense of stability helps each child feel safe, valued, and confident.

Within the thoughtfully prepared Montessori classroom, students are guided through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Lessons foster the children’s natural curiosity and individual pace of growth. When children are free to explore and take ownership of their learning, they build confidence, independence, and a deep love of discovery. Through self-directed work, they experience the joy of mastering new skills and developing their unique gifts.

Our classroom experience includes Circle time; art; music; outdoor learning and play; practical Life activities that build independence and responsibility; biblically-based science; numbers and early math; and phonics and early language arts.
Language Arts

We are committed to cultivating not only academic growth, but also character, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Wednesdays 9:50-12:15 $110/month

Optional Add-Ons

LUNCH - Students may stay for lunch from 12:15-12:45 at no additional cost. Parents will provide a lunch for their children.

ELECTIVES - Parents may choose one of the following elective classes for an additional $30/month. These classes run from 12:50-1:35.

Ballet: Introduce your little dancer to the beautiful art of ballet! This class will enhance your child's coordination, balance and flexibility with the teaching of basic ballet positions, steps, and terminology. Your child will also enjoy simple and fun exercises in creative dance and music exploration. The Ballet class will perform at the fall and spring Compass Family Nights.

Lego Learning Lab: Get ready for a class filled with creativity, imagination, and plenty of LEGO fun! In LEGO Learning Lab, students will design and build exciting creations while exploring new ideas and learning through hands-on experiences. As they build and create, students will naturally develop important skills such as problem-solving, following directions, communication, critical thinking, fine motor development, and cooperation.
Sensory Explorers: Children are naturally curious about the world around them. This class aims to provide a wide variety of opportunities to learn about their 5 Senses. While students are participating in activities and games that provide sensory exposure and exploration, they will also be improving coordination, motor planning, visual perception, and both fine and gross motor skills. This will be a very hands-on and active class with activities such as obstacle courses, new foods and smells, sensory boxes, and finger painting.

Young Learners

Children who are 4 by August 1st are eligible for the K4 program at Compass.

Children who are 5 by August 1st are eligible for K5 classes at Compass, including the Montessori Class and electives.

All children at Compass must be

fully potty-trained (able to use the toilet, pull up pants, and wash hands independently).
able to follow directions
able to identify their own belongings (coat, water bottles, back pack, lunch box).
able to put their shoes on independently.
