Science (MAP): Marine Biology
Grades
8th-12th
The oceans are an amazing ecosystem full of fascinating, even bizarre creatures with intriguing characteristics. This 90 minute class will cover your child's core science for the year and can be counted as one science credit for high school. The course will cover these topics and more: Geography of the Oceans, Classifying Life in the Sea, Marine Plants and Animals, Marine Ecology, Coral Reefs, Ocean Resources and Effects of Humans of the Sea.
The required textbook is Exploring Creation with Marine Biology, 2nd Edition, by Sherri Seligson. The book is written from a Christian world-view, it teaches that God designed the earth’s astonishing ecosystem for his glory and the needs of his creatures, and it is a crucially important science for Christians in our day to understand accurately.
Students will be invited (but not required) to participate in one or more field trips during the school year that will enhance the learning experience and provide interesting first-hand glimpses into the life of marine plants and animals and their biology.
The teacher will provide grades throughout the semester and a final grade in December and May.
