Learn to Choreograph: Finding Your Voice Through Movement
Grades
6th-12th
Have you ever wanted to create your own dance instead of just learning someone else’s choreography? This class is designed for middle and high school students who are ready to explore their creativity and discover how to turn ideas, emotions, and stories into movement.
In Learning to Choreograph, students will learn the foundations of choreography, including: Building movement phrases, using levels, pathways, and formations, working with music and rhythm, creating strong beginnings and endings and developing themes and storytelling through dance all the while collaborating with peers and giving constructive feedback!
Through creative exercises, improvisation, and group projects, dancers will build confidence in their artistic voice. The course encourages risk-taking, imagination, and leadership in a supportive and inclusive environment. By the end of the class, students will choreograph and perform an original piece, gaining experience in both the creative process and performance.
No prior choreography experience is required, just a willingness to move, think creatively, and try something new.
