Volunteer Policy - Updated

Parent volunteers are essential to help Compass provide a safe environment for your children. A link to the volunteer sign up sheet will be emailed to all the parents as well as posted on our website before each semester begins. We have multiple volunteer opportunities including daytime and evening events, so parents can select the times that best fit their schedule. When you volunteer, you may be asked to help at the sign in table, monitor hallways or lunch, assist in a classroom, help clean up, or supervise events.

As Compass continues to grow, we have re-evaluated our volunteer needs and policies.  We want to make sure that  our expectations are reasonable and necessary.  Starting in 2026-2027, Compass volunteer responsibilities will be based on the number of periods a family is enrolled at Compass.  These volunteer hours are per semester.  If you cannot volunteer the required number of hours in a semester, you may elect to pay the opt-out fee.  Use the following chart to calculate your volunteer hours.

To determine the number of periods enrolled, add up all the periods your children at on campus at Compass during the week (Mondays and Wednesdays).  The "enrolled periods" are calculated per family.  "Enrolled periods" include classes, study hall, and high school waiting area.   You do not need to include lunch in claculating your enrolled periods.

Example: The Smith family has 2 children

• Smith child #1 takes a 2-period biology class on Mondays and a 1 period drama class on Wednesdays.  Student #1 is enrolled for 3 periods total.

• Smith child #2 takes 1 art class, 1 cooking class, and 1 high school waiting area on Wednesdays.  Student #2 is enrolled for 3 periods total.

• The Smith family has 6 enrolled periods and will be responsible for 6 hours of volunteering for the semester.
