Introduction to Computer Coding

This class is an introductory-level course for students brand new to programming and computer science. In this course students will be exposed to a diverse set of computational thinking concepts, fundamentals, and tools, allowing them to gain understanding and build confidence. Using Sphero Bolts and Sphero Minis (coding robots) they will be introduced to logical thinking and collaboration using pseudo code and block programming. (They are not required to purchase these. I have a set of 6 of each for class use.) As they gain confidence they will learn to program their own micro:bit microcontroller and transition from block programming into using Python. (Additionally, they will also be introduced to basic Javascript during this course.) $35 supply fee covers the full year and will not be required in January.

Requirements:

Each student will need a computer or tablet. The Sphero devices can be programmed using phones, Fire tablets, Android tablets, and iPads. The apps do not work on computers. The micro:bits microcontroller can be programmed on both computers and tablets. Please contact me if you have questions about your device. Both Sphero and Micro:bits require a free app to be installed on the device if used on a tablet / phone. In summary, an iPad or Android tablet should work for both.
